The garnet family includes stones in various colours, including red, green and golden brown. The most usual variety is dark red in colour, these can be pyrope, almandine (almandite) or rhodolite garnets and are found in many parts of the world, including Sri Lanka, Central Europe, South America and India.

Garnets have been used in jewellery since ancient times, the red variety often being known as 'carbuncle'.

These garnet trilliant cabochons are made from fine hand-polished almandine garnet and have a flat back. They measure approximately 8mm in size.
