Rhodonite is generally a rose pink colour, but can also be red or mauve. It has a vitreous lustre and measures 6 on Mohs scale of hardness. As it is generally an opaque stone, it is often used for carvings, beads, ornaments and cabochons.

Rhodonite varies slightly in colour and sometimes contains black veins giving an attractive marbled effect. It can be found in USA, South Africa, Sweden and Australia and is the official gem of Massachusetts.
