The garnet family includes stones in various colours, including red, green and golden brown. The most usual variety is dark red in colour, these can be pyrope, almandine (almandite) or rhodolite garnets and are found in many parts of the world, including Sri Lanka, Central Europe, South America and India.

Garnets have been used in jewellery since ancient times, the red variety often being known as 'carbuncle'.

Our square cushion garnet cabochons are made from natural almandine garnet. They are shaped like a pyramid with a pointed top and a flatback. They measure approximately 5mm in size.
